2022 Camera Release Recap

Posted by Maxwell Sierra on

As the new year is coming full swing we wanted to start this blog with a quick thank you to everyone who has helped our small business in recent years. Thank you all for your continued support.

2023 is upon us and we wanted to recap 2022 with a quick blog showcasing all the newest, latest, and greatest digital cameras that were released last year!

Starting off in January of 2022 Canon released the Canon EOS R5 C.

The Canon EOS R5 C is similar to the EOS R5 mirrorless camera, however it is catered more towards video production. The Canon EOS R5 C features an active cooling system on the back of the camera. This active cooling allows for unlimited recording times. The Canon EOS R5 C can be powered by our Wasabi Power LP-E6NH battery or by our LP-E6NH DC Coupler with Dummy Battery.

Moving onto February of 2022 we saw two cameras released. The first camera that was released in February was the OM System OM-1.

The OM-1 is considered a flagship camera model and the name “OM-1” may sound familiar to some. The name of this camera is a direct callback to the 50 year old Olympus OM-1 35mm film camera that many film photographers may have seen before. However, this camera boasts phenomenal specs compared to its original. The OM-1 is capable of images up to 80MP, video of 4k, or video of 240fps at FHD. The Olympus OM System OM-1 can be powered by our Wasabi Power BLX-1 battery.

The next release in February was the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH6. The Lumix DC-GH6 is an excellent Micro Four Thirds sensor, video focused, digital camera. Although it is more built for video, it is still very capable of producing amazing still images. Whether you are using it for videography, landscapes, or stills on set, you can power your Panasonic Lumix DC-GH6 with our Wasabi Power DMW-BLK22.

Camera enthusiasts would not see another camera release until May 2022. In May 2022 Canon would release two EOS R Mirrorless Cameras, and Fujifilm would release their all new Fujifilm X-H2S. Starting with Canon we would see the Canon EOS R7

The Canon EOS R7 boasts an excellent 32.5 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS Sensor. This mirrorless camera is compact, lightweight, and still packs a punch of quality. The Canon EOS R7 can be powered by our Wasabi Power LP-E6NH battery. We also offer a DC Coupler with Dummy battery that allows for unlimited power through AC power supply.

The Canon EOS R10 is the next camera that Canon released in May of 2022. The Canon EOS R10 is very similar to the Canon EOS R7, however the EOS R10 has a slightly smaller MP count, has a 75% crop in RAW burst mode, and does not have sensor-based In-body Image stabilization. One final difference between these two cameras is that the Canon EOS R10 battery can be powered by the Wasabi Power LP-E17 battery.

Fujifilm released their all new Fujifilm X-H2S in May of 2022 after almost eight months of not releasing a new camera. The Fujifilm X-H2S is an immensely specced out Mirrorless camera. With a stacked CMOS sensor, 40fps while taking pictures, and 4k video at 120P, it is no wonder this camera has been rising in popularity. The Fujifilm X-H2S can be powered by our Wasabi Power NP-W235 battery. Alternatively if you are more interested in doing video work Wasabi Power also has a Fujifilm NP-W235 AC Power Adapter or Fujifilm NP-W235 DTAP Dummy Battery.

In June we would see one camera release and that would be the Nikon Z30. The Nikon Z30 was Nikon’s newest mirrorless camera catered primarily for content creators. This camera is small, lightweight, and easy to use. The Nikon Z30 is excellent for vloggers and we offer our Wasabi Power EN-EL25 battery.

July and August of 2022 would yield no new camera releases, however September would start strong with Fuji releasing another mirrorless camera. The name and design looks almost identical to the Fujifilm X-H2, but this camera packs the capacity to shoot 8k video which may be more preferable to some. Similarly to the Fujifilm X-H2S, the Fujifilm X-H2 can be powered by our Wasabi Power NP-W235 battery, Wasabi Power Fujifilm NP-W235 AC Power Adapter, Wasabi Power Fujifilm NP-W235 DTAP Dummy Battery.

With a typical annual release GoPro released the GoPro HERO11 Black in the month of September. The GoPro Hero 11 Black packs a great amount of quality into a small body. Additionally, the GoPro Hero 11 Black can take the Wasabi Power Lithium ion battery pack for GoPro cameras. This battery is the same battery that the GoPro Hero9 and GoPro Hero10 use.

The next camera that was announced in September was by Sony. Sony announced their Sony FX30 which is described as an entry level cinema camera. This camera is small and lightweight which makes it the perfect everyday filming camera. The Sony FX30 can be powered by our Wasabi Power FZ100 battery.

Shortly after the release of the Sony FX30, Sony would release two more cameras in the following month. Beginning with the Sony ZV-1F. The Sony ZV-1F is similar to the Nikon Z30 in the mindset of content creators. The Sony ZV-1F is marketed directly towards Vloggers and similar content creators who need a wide lens and good on-camera microphone. If you want to buy spare batteries for your Sony ZV-1F you will be assured that we have our Wasabi Power NP-BX1 battery.

For those looking for a more souped up camera, Sony delivered the Sony A7R V. The Sony A7R V is the newest Sony mirrorless camera that has a whopping 60MP, 8K video, and relatively small footprint in terms of weight and size. The Sony A7R V can be powered by our Wasabi Power FZ100 battery.

The last camera released in October was the Olympus OM System OM-5. The OM-5 is a rather sleek designed mirrorless camera that uses a Micro Four Thirds Sensor. The camera is a great option for those who do not need through the roof specs on a camera, and want something that will not weigh them down on a trip. The Olympus OM System OM-5 mirrorless camera can be powered by our Wasabi Power BLS-50 battery.

The last month that cameras were released in 2022 was November. November saw the release of three cameras. For starters, Canon released their Canon EOS R6 Mark II mirrorless camera. The R6 mkii is Canon’s one stop shop for videographers and photographers alike for no matter what job they are doing. Whatever the job may be, our Wasabi Power LP-E6NH battery can power your Canon EOS R6 Mark II

Fuji’s last release of 2022 was the Fujifilm X-T5. This camera features a back side illuminated CMOS sensor. Although some may not prefer the APS-C crop sensor with 40MP in the camera you are assured great quality with every shot. Your Fujifilm X-T5 can be powered by our Wasabi Power NP-W235 battery.

The last camera released was from Pentax. The Pentax KF is a DSLR style camera made of magnesium alloy, weather sealed, and built with a pentaprism optical viewfinder. The Pentax KF is keeping the DSLR style alive and can use our Wasabi Power D-LI109 battery.

That's a quick wrap-up of cameras that were released in 2022. To view our collection of other camera batteries for Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Sony, and more, please feel free to click here.
